Overview: Coach Steve Shaw, Christopher Newport University (CNU)  Men's Soccer Team Head Coach, annually hosts several camps including the Salty Dog Soccer Camp open to all players, the Salty Dog Wizards Advanced Camp for experienced players, and a separate Inner City Outreach Program.

Coaches and Staff:  Director Steve Shaw has been a college coach for 19 years at William & Mary and Christopher Newport University, and was most recently voted Virginia and USA South's Collegiate Coach of the Year for 2008. He and his staff have hosted youth oriented soccer camps for over 30 years. All coaches and staff have extensive soccer playing and coaching experience at the select, collegiate, or professional levels, which includes current and past players from the CNU "Captains" teams. Girl camps will be led by Ruth Keegan, CNU Women's Soccer Team Head Coach. Coach Keegan graduated from Methodist College in 1995, and was an All-American and Dixie Conference Player of the Year while with the Monarchs. Her playing experience also includes five years with the Republic of Ireland national team.

Registration: Registration is based on first-come-first- served, but every effort is made not to turn any players away.  Cost for players age 5-6 is $100 for half day camps; ages 7-17 is $150; cost for players belonging to CNU Staff is $120. Additionally, players that register for both Salty Dog Camps will received a reduced price of only $250.  To register, please fill out and send or hand in the registration form along with full payment or at least the initial half payment of $75 which is nonrefundable, but may be returned in part or whole for unusual circumstances in which the applicant must withdraw.

SALTY DOG SOCCER CAMP:

Overview: The Salty Dog Soccer Camp is a program to youth players (ages 5-17) led by Mr. Steve Shaw. While primarily a local program hosted at CNU, camps have also been hosted in Africa and Latin America. It is designed to instruct boys and girls in individual skills, tactics, and fundamentals of team play. Players will be grouped according to age and ability. Our goal is to satisfy and challenge the serious players and also the beginner while creating an atmosphere of fun and competition for all.

Coaches and Staff:  Coach Steve Shaw will oversee and direct both camps for boys; Coach Ruth Keegan will offer separate camps for the girls.  Assistant coaches include current and past players from CNU "Captains" teams, as well as some local coaches with extensive experience.

Scheduled Camps: Coach Shaw will host two Salty Dog Soccer Camps for boys in 2009 for Boys ages 5-6 and 7-17, while coach Keegan will host two girls camps age 4-17 ending at 2:30 pm and includes a one hour lunch break (players must bring their own lunches and snacks, the program will not provide lunches).
