 Overview: Coach Steve Shaw, Christopher Newport University (CNU)  Men's Soccer Team Head Coach, and Coach Ruth Keegan, CNU Women's Soccer Team Head Coach, annually host several camps including the Salty Dog Soccer Camp, Lady Captains Soccer Camp, the Salty Dog Wizards Advanced Camp, and a separate Inner City Outreach Program/Camp. 2010 Registration is based on first-come-first- served, but every effort is made not to turn any players away.  Cost for players age 5-6 is $100 for half day camps; ages 7-17 is $165; cost for players belonging to CNU Staff is $125. Additionally, players that register for two boy or girl camps will receive a reduced price of only $300. 

 Daily Schedules:   

        - 9:00-09:30    Demonstration of Individual Skills / Warm -up Games

        - 9:30-11:30    Individual Skills / Tactics / Fundamentals
        - 11:30-12:30   LUNCH: Players may bring a bag lunch or buy

                              food at the new David Student Center. Chick-fil-A

                              and Stone Wileys personal pizzas, drinks, and

                              snacks will be available each day.

        - 12:30-2:30    Team play / Games / Competitions and Indoor

                              Soccer at the Freeman Center

 What to bring: Soccer Ball, Shin Guards, Bag Lunch, Water Bottle
Indoor Soccer Shoes / Tennis Shoes

 

SALTY DOG SOCCER CAMP:

 Overview: The Salty Dog Soccer Camp is a program to youth players (ages 5-17) led by Mr. Steve Shaw. While primarily a local program hosted at CNU, camps have also been hosted in Africa and Latin America. It is designed to instruct boys and girls in individual skills, tactics, and fundamentals of team play. Players will be grouped according to age and ability. Our goal is to satisfy and challenge the serious players and also the beginner while creating an atmosphere of fun and competition for all. (See brochure).  

 Coaches and Staff:   Director Steve Shaw has been a college coach for 19 years at William & Mary and Christopher Newport University, and was most recently voted Virginia and USA South's Collegiate Coach of the Year for 2008. He and his staff have hosted youth oriented soccer camps for over 30 years. All coaches and staff have extensive soccer playing and coaching experience at the select, collegiate, or professional levels, which includes current and past players from the CNU "Captains" teams.

LADY CAPTAINS SOCCER CAMP

 Overview: The Lady Captains Soccer Camp is a program to youth players (ages 5-17) led by Coach Ruth Keegan. It is designed to instruct girls in individual skills, tactics, and fundamentals of team play. Players will be grouped according to age and ability. The goal is to satisfy and challenge the serious players and also the beginner while creating an atmosphere of fun and competition for all.  Coaches and Staff:  Director Ruth Keegan, CNU Women's Soccer Team Head Coach, graduated from Methodist College in 1995, and was an All-American and Dixie Conference Player of the Year while with the Monarchs. Her playing experience also includes five years with the Republic of Ireland national team.  The Lady Captains camp will have an experienced coaching staff. All CNU coaches will be present as well as current and former CNU players.

Salty Dog Wizards Soccer Camp:

 Overview: The Salty Dog Wizards Soccer Camp is primarily focused on, but not limited to, advanced players competing in U9 and older advanced, select, or travel teams. Players are grouped based on age and ability, coupled with considerations of their assignment or potential assignment to teams for which they may play in the upcoming fall season (See brochure).
